If I were to ask you to listen to If These Trees Could Talk and classify their genre in at least three categories, I would be confident that you couldn’t. What I deem as the most unique album I have ever reviewed, this album is in fact a first in many ways, not just on a personal scale but in a broader sense.  Continue reading “Album Review: If These Trees Could Talk – The Bones of a Dying World”

Six Feet Under – Crypt Of The Devil

Six-Feet-Under-Crypt-of-the-DevilA fierce and unstoppable entity has been wreaking havoc on the heavy metal universe since the day they got together. Their presence and terrorizing musicianship has shaped the world of metal with such creative and shrewd craft. Their careers have reached unsurpassed lengths, it’s hard nowadays to find artists that have achieved as much as these guys have and have stood the test of time. Known as the mighty, Six Feet Under, their existence thus far has garnered them 22 years now of terror, monstrous tunes and overall just destruction upon the metal masses. Their eleventh album, Crypt Of The Devil, will be released May 5th, 2015, via their longtime only label, Metal Blade Records. The group promises this is a new incarnation of the band with amassing tunes that encompass a fresh new songwriting perspective. Crypt Of The Devil’s, lyrics are penned from the perspective of a serial killer with macabre concepts that take over the dark souls of the damned. Ten rigorously driven and pummeled into your skull tracks, this is hands down one of the heaviest albums of the year so far. A little known fact, lead man Chris Barnes was the original frontman for the legendary Cannibal Corpse.

The fruition of evil is mustered immediately in the opener aptly titled, Gruesome. Blast beats, insane double bass, out of this world gutterals, if you really wanna scare the shit out of someone, blast this demonic track. The death metal demon from within is awakened once more! Don’t forget to stick around for the killer solo that encompasses some raging shred with it. Open the coffin and expose the orgy from within, in the track, Open Coffin Orgy. Heavy in groove and eargasmic riffs, the buildup to the end of the track is one sinister and sharp journey. Chris Barnes’ vocals are incredibly evil, is there a frontman that can match his vocals? While the previous track was intransically evil, the atmosphere shifts a bit into a more Death n’ Roll attitude in the track, Break the Cross in Half. No crazy solos, this is just a one hundred percent driven track that does not slow down for any special features. Once more the vocals push the gore intensity factor of +ten, for this track is riff driven beyond my comprehension.

A dark rush of intensity for you speed freaks out there, you’ll cringe at the sounds from tracks like Lost Remains and Stab. The nostalgia of classic death metal brings a surge of endorphins awaiting to be unleashed. Heavily influenced from older Six Feet Under, this is death metal at it’s finest right here. If these tracks don’t entice you to come to the dark side, then I don’t know what will. Compulsion to Brutalize is an extreme title for a track which of course comes with a side of in your face atrocity that will leave you scrambling to pick your manhood up from the ground. For sure an ominous solo thrown into the mix, there’s plenty of chugging here throughout. The lyrical content of the track also left me almost pulverized mentally, boy can I get another dose please? Of course the final track ends the album on an extreme high note as some eerie effects make their presence known immediately. Blast beats, speedy double bass, blood-curdling vocals, and an enbodiment of ludicrous peril, this is what a death metal fan could want. The final stop in this terrorizing album, the track completely demolishes the listener, leaving us in despair and eternally predisposed.

Hands down, the heaviest album of the year so far, Six Feet Under once more puts out an amazing album that made me crave more and more malevolent barbarity. Each track had it’s own original agenda which injects the listener with a foreboding sense of dismay. For those who are already fans, the album will click immediately but certainly catch you off-guard at various moments so watch out. If you haven’t even touched the dark side yet, you have not experienced anything until you throw some Six Feet Under on. Truly one of the few original death metal bands left, the Crypt Of The Devil will soon open to swallow us all whole and unleash it’s somber and unforgiving fury from within. Stay Metal m/

Featured Video: Channel Zero – Dark Passenger

ChannelZero-KillAllKingsWe see it in movies, tv and literature. Everyone has that dark side to them, let’s admit it. A band I discovered not too long ago, let’s kickoff this holiday weekend with one of the more aggressive and maniacal tracks I’ve heard in a pretty dam while. Channel Zero brings pure, straight up heavy metal that is kickass and headbangable, makes me want to start a mosh pit. I will admit sometimes I get the case of metal a.d.d. and sometimes I zone out if the band isn’t interesting enough. This track kicks that a.d.d.’s ass, its full of double bass, serious attitudes, killer metal riffs, eargasmic bass drops, even the beginning of the track sets the ferocious atmosphere that is about to ensue. When a band headbangs in their videos, that grabs my attention more than anything. Back to what I initially mentioned, we all have that dark side to us, and if you’ve dealt with that dark side, perhaps the lyrical content of this track will speak to you, as it did me. For those battling addiction or are having rough times, maybe this track will calm you down and get out all that anger and stress these things tends to cause, and not just those themes, but everyday stress from others. The track comes from their previously released latest album, Kill All Kings, via Metal Blade Records. If you’re not familiar with these guys, their sound immediately reminded me of Testament with influences of Pantera, Dio, Slayer and even Megadeth. Don’t let these mainstream names discourage you, it’s a tense track, definitely had me abusing the replay option. So, from Belgium, we present, Channel Zero. Stay Metal m/
